As is the moon, we are for the moment, but fallen stars. Our forms a pale glimmer of the vast, far-reaching light that we possess within. And so our task begins: to remember, to access, and to shine this light that can turn the tides of the cosmos, if we so will it ~ Veronique Redican

Have You Opened Your Love Letter Today?

Love Letters from the Universe
I love watching film. I love being productive even more. So when I sat down to watch PS I Love You, I had already lined up no less than 3 projects to work on while watching it. I was only 10 minutes into the film, when I realized that they would have to be done later.
A couple hours and several tissues later, I reemerged, teary-eyed, awestruck, and touched by a message that went beyond the strength of love between two people. It was about the magic and love of ordinary life. I became present to the passionate love that was all around me. Not the sappy, feel-good kind— a real, tangible, love that impacts my life every day.

The movie is called PS I Love You. For those of you who haven’t seen it, or need a recap: it’s a film about a man who knowing that he is dying soon, writes letters to his wife to be sent to her over a year after his death. The letters come to her in unexpected ways at unexpected times, each of them urging her to get out in the world and start living life again. He has her pamper herself, and face fears, and encourages her to find a job she’ll truly love. He even sends her on a prepaid vacation.

Ahh, to be known so deeply and loved so completely by someone that even after they are gone they find ways to support you, guide you, and love you. Who wouldn’t want to be loved so thoroughly and completely it survives death?

As the film progressed, I felt a deep recognition within me, that all of us are loved this deeply and completely. That every day we all receive the most beautiful and exquisitely planned love letters from someone who knows us far better than we could ever know ourselves ~ the universe.

Like a devoted partner, it delivers them to us in unexpected ways and at unexpected times. Just as the husband encourages his wife to look for signs to guide her into a new life of her own making, the universe is constantly encouraging us to be open for signs that will guide us to where we want to be.

It letters are the well-timed hugs that remind us we are love, those invisible objects that we can’t help but trip over as we are brought back to the present just in time to realize we’re about walk past where we need to go. It’s a carefully planned “prank” that has us laugh at our imperfections, or a sad song that plays on the radio when we most need to cry the tears we have tucked away for a rainy day.

In fact, it weaves together a life so carefully designed and full of love that we cannot fail to live up to it. And when we falter, as we all do,it knows how to help us back on our feet, even if it has to drag us, kicking and screaming; for it is steadfast in following the path of our hearts, taking all measures to ensure that we accomplish what we most wish to do.

In the movie, it was up to the wife to take action, and so moved by his love for her, she found the courage to do so. She felt his loving presence and fueled by his belief in her she began to remember long lost dreams. She began to resurrect a more open perspective from her youth, where all she needed to guide her was a simple faith in the fact that she knew she was here on the planet to create. How that came to be, didn’t matter, because she trusted life would reveal the “how” in time.
In short, she let his love embolden her, and borrowed his faith until she could find her own.

Let the universe’s deep love for you embolden you in the year ahead and beyond. When you begin to lose sight of the path ahead, when you’re unsure of what to trust in, borrow the universe’s steadfast confidence in you until you can forge your own.
Look for signs, in the present and borrow from your past. Look for any time when you felt exuberance and optimism for your life and let that passion and clarity find its way to you again. Then lend that passion all the wisdom of lessons learned since, that it may come to maturity and steer you forward.

The universe believes in each of us, and offers us its support without question and without condition.

Open each day, as the love letter that it is, and pour over every letter of encouragement, understanding the love that went it into, is as deep as the love of a dying man urging his wife to lead the miraculous life he can’t but wants for her all the more.
